RAWLINSON RENAULT RACES INTO ACTION FOR SNETTERTON BTCC WEEKEND
Renaultsport specialist Rawlinson Renault earned its racing stripes at the weekend by loaning a new Mégane Renaultsport 250 to be used as the official Safety Car for two Renaultsport races during the British Touring Car Championship meeting at Norfolk’s Snetterton circuit.
The dealership on Easlea Road, which is one of only 11 dealers in the UK to offer a dedicated Renaultsport centre, kindly donated the award-winning hot hatch as the Safety Car for the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship and the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin series – both prominent support races to the BTCC.
Driven by Scott Stringfellow and observer Peter Harris – the official Safety Car personnel at all BTCC events – the Mégane Renaultsport 250 Safety Car provided a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth running of each race.
Prior the race weekend, the Mégane Renaultsport 250 was handed over to Tom Phillips from Renaultsport (pictured) by Rawlinson Renault Managing Director Jonathan Rawlinson who said: “We’re delighted we could help out this weekend and for Rawlinson Renault to play such an important role in the running of two highly regarded Renaultsport championships.
“To cope with the high-speed twists and turns of Snetterton circuit we chose to loan Renaultsport our Cup model – one of two distinct chassis choices available on the entire Renaultsport range. The Cup chassis on the Mégane 250 boasts features such as a limited slip differential, stiffer springs and dampers to deliver outstanding performance both on the track and the road."
He added: “As well as proving the Renaultsport championship Safety Car, this weekend we also gave two lucky customers the chance to enjoy all the BTCC action in style following our recent VIP ticket competition.”
Priced from £23,160, the Mégane 250 is powered by a new generation 2.0-litre, 16V Turbo engine developing 250hp with a top speed of 156mph and a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds. It was also recently voted Best Hot Hatch of 2010 by What Car? magazine with Renaultsport also recently presented with Top Gear Magazine’s prestigious ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ award.
